Love is ironic. When falling in love for the first time, there is no blueprint you follow, you don't have any prior experience, so you have no idea what to expect. In other words, oftentimes, your first love is indeed special, in a lot of good ways. But they are also the first person to hurt you, the first person to teach you what you don't want in a relationship. At one point in their relationship, OP got a birthday gift from her parents; it was an Xbox 360. Her boyfriend pounced on it, as he loved gaming, and gave her his old PlayStation instead.
